Denali National Park was established in 1917, but originally named Mount McKinley National Park for Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America. This peak reaches an astonishing 20,320 feet high. In 1980 the park was renamed to Denali National Park. Denali means "The Great One" or "The High One." This park occupies 4,690,680 acres of land in south central Alaska.
